EGG350 proudly presents a “can’t miss” 4-part series: Climate Solutions 101 from Project Drawdown.

Join hosts Sandy Kaptain (EGG350 Chair) and Robin Migalla via ZOOM for each session. Each week, video(s) will be followed by a Q&A session, featuring local expert panelists to discuss SOLUTIONS to the climate crisis.

Co-hosts and supporters of this presentation of Climate Solutions 101 include Gail Borden Public Library (GBPL specific links noted below to register attendance), The League Of Women Voters and Sierra Club VOF.

For a preview of this series, attend EGG350’s in-person gathering, Monday, 08/16/2021 (for details, see the “Monthly EGG350” page HERE).

Check out these and other opportunities listed on the “Events EGG350” page HERE.

All professionally-produced videos vary from 9 to 23 minutes. The focus is NOT on the problems, numbers or graphs. Instead, the emphasis is on the solutions we have now, which we need to start as soon as possible.

YOUR HOSTS

Sandy Kaptain

Greeniac and Chair of Elgin Green Groups 350, she is also a member of the Sierra Club VOF, Sierra Club Illinois, and the League Of Women Voters Fox Valley.

After 14 years as a chemist at the Fox River Water Reclamation District, then 14 years as a home care and hospice RN, Sandy was shocked by the film ‘An Inconvenient Truth’. So, she moved from Art For All Chair to ECCO (Elgin Climate Change Organization), then started EGG350.

Motto: “We are all in this together — in the Green Boat”

Heroine: Greta Thunberg

Robin Migalla

Elgin’s Greeniac at large, she is committed to leaving this Big Blue Marble better than she found it.

After coming to the realization her culture was most responsible for much of the environmental destruction in which we find ourselves, Robin decided, rather than run away to an eco-village, to start an eco-village in the middle of Elgin in her own home, her solar-powered, zero-waste little piece of native-landscaped heaven.

YOUR PANELISTS

Mavis Bates

A leader in our Fox Valley sustainability community for over 30 years, she kept the Aurora GreenFest going strong 10 straight years and was the driving force in the creation of Sustainable Aurora, the mayor’s sustainability advisory board.

Just elected to the Kane County Board and Kane County Forest Preserve, Mavis also serves as the chair of the Kane County Energy and Environmental Committee.

She recently earned her Master’s Degree in Sustainable Management from the University of Wisconsin.

Motto: “It’s not too late to save the world, but we better hurry up!”

Chris Kious

President of the Kane County Forest Preserve District, Chris has professional experience on wild pollinators and pollinator protection and a degree in entomology.

Carl Missele

A lifelong Elgin resident, he is a longtime active community member. In 2015, Carl was the second recipient of the Elgin Sustainability Commission’s Sustainability Honor Roll.

He has served the North Country Knolls Property Owners Association Board Of Directors, acted as the neighborhood liaison with the city prior to the construction of the Hawthorne Hill Nature Center building, spearheaded the neighborhood cleanup days on the HHNC property, and been an overall integral part of HHNC. Carl has also served the Elgin Community Network, been a member of the Tyler Creek Watershed Coalition, served on the Elgin Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, and hosted (with wife Chris) National Night Out neighborhood parties.

And, if you haven’t seen him in his community roles, maybe you’ve seen him perform in barbershop quartets.

Nancy Lamia

Retired from education and IT, she has converted her city lot to native habitat. Learning from the Greater Kane County Wild Ones (GKCWO) organization, Nancy is now helping to build momentum for their initiative, Start In Your Yard (SIYY).

Jean Muntz

A retired RN, she has also owned an interiorscaping business. For several decades, Jean has been returning native plantings to revive degraded farm property. Now, she focuses on advancing the GKCWO’s SIYY initiative.

About Project Drawdown & Climate Solutions 101

Founded in 2014, Project Drawdown, the world’s leading resource for climate solutions, is a non-profit organization seeking to help the world reach “drawdown”, when levels of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere stop increasing and start to decline.

Climate Solutions 101 is presented by Project Drawdown 100% free [thanks to Trane Technologies, Chris Kohlhardt and Intuit] and full of hope, instead of doom and gloom. The series, the world’s first major educational effort focused only on solutions, explores need-to-know science and fascinating insights from global leaders in such areas as climate policy, research and investment. In addition, the videos highlight game-changing climate action, combining trusted resources with expertise of 10 inspiring world thought leaders of climate, nature, industry, justice and more, discussing the ins-and-outs of climate solutions across sectors.

Project Drawdown Executive Director Jonathan Foley serves as the co-pilot of exploring humanity’s greatest challenge and greatest opportunity.

Join us for Climate Solutions 101 and go GREEN-GREENER-GREENEST!
