At the Wednesday, 12/02/2020, City Council meeting, the members approved the budget, allowing the City Of Elgin to create a full-time staff position for managing sustainability efforts.
“As I see it, the position would include overseeing the liaison efforts needed to assist the Sustainability Commission and also to seek grants to further the work of the Sustainability Commission, to name a few,” noted Mayor David Kaptain.

Originally adopted by the City Council in 2011, Elgin’s Sustainability Action Plan includes 9 areas: Alternative Energy, Economic Development, Green Building Technologies, Green Infrastructure, Health Living & Community Education, Recycling & Waste Management, Transportation & Mobility, Urban Design, and Water Resources.
